Seminar on Hematologic and Vascular Tissue Engineering

Further to the seminar given by Prof. Catherine K. KUO on Tissue Engineering, Dr. Keith WONG, Research Fellow from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, U.S.A., was invited to pay a visit and to deliver a seminar, entitled “Hematologic and Vascular Tissue Engineering” on 15 Dec 2016.

In view of the interdisciplinary problems at the interface of tissue engineering and the human circulatory system, Dr. WONG decided to focus his research on the biostabilization of patient blood for precision oncology, specifically in extending the viability of whole blood for the microfluidic isolation and molecular characterization of circulating tumor cells.  During the seminar, he discussed and further elaborated how micro-environmental factors could enhance vascular functions and stability. And as a native-born scholar in Hong Kong, he was pleased to share with our fellow students his experience and the long-term goal in how to engineer clinically relevant tissues for both regenerative medicine and as in vitro models that directly impact patient care in the future.
