Histology Core

The Institute of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is offering 1

Postdoctoral Fellow position (CUHK Job ID: 22000024)
in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science and Engineering

The intended starting date is 01.03.2022

Our Profile

The tissue microenvironment conveys information to regulate numerous processes critical for the functioning of the entire body down to responses of individual cells. The overall goal of Prof. Blocki’s research is to tap into nature’s wisdom to learn to decipher and engineer microenvironments that drive specific tissue processes including tissue healing and regeneration.

Prof. Blocki is looking for a Postdoc to develop a new class of biomaterials based on in vitro cell-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) with programmed bioactivities. These will be applied to chronic wounds to improve the hostile tissue environment. Subsequently the lost skin tissue shall be replaced by 3D bio-printed vascularized skin constructs.

Your Profile

  • You have successfully completed your studies in biology, biotechnology or biomedical engineering with a PhD degree
  • You have a strong sense of initiative, a high degree of teamwork and a strong ability to communicate as well as the willingness to take on responsibility
  • An analytical and conceptual mind, a systematic way of working and a high readiness for interdisciplinary work complete your profile
  • Experience with cell culture, analysis techniques and 3D bio-printing is highly appreciated but not required.
  • You have very good knowledge of English.

Your Tasks

  • The main task will be the development of engineered ECM-loaded hydrogels, the establishment of 3D bio-printed vascularized skin substitute and the engraftment in a rodent wound model
  • Independent scientific work of the corresponding project
  • Planning, execution and evaluation of experiments
  • Writing of scientific articles and grant applications
  • Supervising students in carrying out theses as part of their studies or as student assistants
